Do
you suffer from pain related to TMJ disorder, teeth grinding, or clenching?
Do you wish to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles that have developed
over the years? If so, you may be a candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic
or Therapeutic injections administered by TMJ specialist and BOTOX® certified
doctor Bonsall.
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Maybe
you heard a friend talk about her experience with BOTOX® Cosmetic-and
you think your friend looks great-but before you get treated, you'd like
to know more about it first.
Long before BOTOX® Cosmetic injections were used to beautify the face, they were used for medical purposes. BOTOX® delivered directly to problematic muscles via injections relieve facial tics, involuntary teeth clenching, and other medical problems.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows.
Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done."
How BOTOX® Cosmetic works?
It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.
The injection process!
Dr.
Bonsall will administer several tiny injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic directly
into the muscles that cause those moderate to severe frown lines between
the brows.
Dr. Bonsall will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create a furrowed brow vary markedly among individuals.
No anesthesia is required, although Dr. Bonsall may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief.
You can expect to be in and out of the practice without downtime. You may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows within days. Improvement may continue for as long as a month, and could last up to 4 months.
What better person to administer your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments than Dr. Bonsall, a dentist trained in the anatomy of the face and head?
What is TMJ Disorder?
TMJ syndrome, is an umbrella term covering acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the lower jaw to the skull. The disorder and resultant dysfunction can result in significant pain and impairment. Disorders of the teeth can contribute to TMJ dysfunction. We at Clicnic Dr. Bonsall can help identify the source of the pain with a thorough exam and appropriate x-rays.
Tooth mobility and tooth loss can be caused by destruction of the supporting bone and by heavy forces being placed on teeth. Movement of the teeth affects how they contact one another when the mouth closes, and the overall relationship between the teeth, muscles, and joints can be altered. Pulpitis, inflammation of the dental pulp, is another symptom that may result from excessive surface erosion.
It
should be considered that there are many symptoms of TMJ disorder. Everyone
is different, therefore the disorder can and does manifest itself in a variety
of ways. Although this is by no means an exclusive list, the following are
symptoms of teeth and gum Problems a patient with TMJ disorder might experience:
- Clenching during the day or at night
- Grinding teeth at night (bruxism)
- Tooth pain
- Sensitive teeth
- Mouth, Face, Cheek, and Chin Problems: Discomfort or pain to any of these areas
